| Sherry Kempf | | Greetings!
I've been an English teacher at Creative Arts for the last 10 years. Before coming to Creative Arts I taught middle school English at Fresh Start and first/second grade at Mounds Park World Cultures Magnet. Before coming to St. Paul, I taught middle school and first grade in Madison, Wisconsin, where I received my B.S. in education from the Univeristy of Wisconsin.
I was fortunate to experience a lot of travel and exploration before deciding to become a teacher. I actually began teaching during the two years I lived in Japan. I have maintained many connections with Japan, and regualrly teach courses in Japanese literature at Creative Arts.
Because I have always loved writing, I pursued an M.F.A. in writing from Hamline University. I continue to write on my own (in my very limited free time) and have had several pieces published. While I incorporate writing throughout all my classes, I also teach creative writing classes and work with students to produce and publish their own work in various forms.
I currently divide my time between teaching 75% time at Creative Arts, teaching in the education department at the College of St.
Catherine, and enjoying my time with family and friends. My husband and I adopted a daughter from China in the fall of 2004, and she has been a source of joy ever since. Read a piece I wrote about this experience and published in Minnesota Parent magazine before travelling to China.
This year I am at Creative Arts every day from 11:30 - 4:00, and teach three classes during that time. If you have any questions or would like to talk, please contact me. I look forward to working with you!
